When Pop Goes Punk ( What is Pop, Rock Pop)

What comes to your mind whenever you hear the word, “punk”? For most people they would usually say that punks look like the Ramones or the Sex Pistols. With these perceptions in mind, let’s take a deeper look. Punk music is a rock musical genre that developed between 1974 and 1976 in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Rooted in garage rock and other forms of what is now known as protopunk music, punk rock bands eschewed perceived excesses of mainstream 1970s rock.
With the two musical genres clashing in mainstream music, artists of different kinds try their best to make themselves distinguishable from others.
Punk rock lyrics are typically frank and confrontational; compared to the lyrics of other popular music genres, they frequently comment on social and political issues.

With the social issues we are facing, listeners have shifted from the sentimental side of pop to punk.

By the turn of the decade, the punk rock movement had split deeply along cultural and musical lines, leaving a variety of derivative scenes and forms.
On one side were new wave and post-punk artists; some adopted more accessible musical styles and gained broad popularity, while some turned in more experimental, less commercial directions.

What is Pop Music?

On the other hand, with the shift in social issues and preferences of the youth, a shift in the musical scene also became apparent.
More people are turning pop into punk and they like it.

We’ve come to know that pop music is understood to be commercially recorded music, often oriented towards a youth market, usually consisting of relatively short, simple songs utilizing technological innovations to produce new variations on existing themes.

With this in mind, perhaps it has been a phenomenon where music shifts from on position to another.

This considers the fact that artists depend greatly on the listeners to create better music, music that for them is relevant and worth-while.

Rock and Pop songs that hit the Charts

Let’s take a look at the other musical genres that rule the charts.

For some time during the 90’s Blink 182 has dominated the scene, with their singles; All the small things and I miss you.

During the new millennium a band named Maroon 5 became a contender and after some time totally dominated the scene, with their single; ‘she will be loved.’

On the other hand, after Michael Jackson has dominated the scene in the 80’s and 90’s when it comes to pop music; new artists like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry entered the scene.

The two artists made a new name for themselves not only with their songs but also with their fashion and attitude in the music industry.
